Wen Liu, Ph.D. "Fibromyalgia and Opioids"
Wen Liu, Ph.D. a researcher focusing on chronic pain and pain management at the University of Kansas Medical Center has been conducting research pertaining to Opioid Usage in people diagnosed with fibromyalgia. He plans to apply for a research Grant from the National Institute of Health (NIH) which would enable him to conduct additional research targeting Fibromyalgia sufferers and their utilization of Opioids for pain management vs. other alternatives. Towards that end, Dr. Liu will have an optional short Questionnaire for you to complete during our Conference. He plans to utilize this Questionnaire and your responses to further hone his research efforts in support of Fibromyalgia patients. Dr. Liu also serves on the FCI Board of Directors.
Nancy Russell, M.D. "Functional Medicine Approach to Fibromyalgia"
Dr. Nancy Russell began her private practice in January of 1982 after completing her residency in internal medicine at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo. She received her medical doctorate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. As medical director at Nurturing Optimal Wellness, Dr. Russell's goal is to get to the root of the problem, not simply treat symptoms by covering them up or controlling them. Dr. Russell has appeared on ABC's News show 20/20 and lectures to physicians around the country. She has been a journal reviewer and medical writer for Oakstone Publishing and recently completed a medical review for The Mighty Fibromyalgia Condition Guide, a patient-centric guide to understanding fibromyalgia. Adam Boender, D.C. "Regain Your Life 'NOW' with Stem Cell Therapy"
Dr. Adam Boender is prominent in the Kansas City health and wellness community and is a pioneer in the progression of Regenerative Medicine. He received his doctorate at Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, where he graduated with honors in 2008. Pamela Gilford, M.S., C.N.N. "Testing for Root Causes of Fibromyalgia"
Pamela Gilford has a Masters in Biochemistry from the University of Kansas, and several years' experience as a pharmaceutical researcher. She spent 10 years with the Midwest Research Institute in Kansas City as an environmental scientist involved in exposure assessment and evaluation of toxic compounds. Ms. Gilford is a Certified Clinical Nutritionist, which has allowed her to incorporate integrative and functional medicine approaches in her consultations. She is a nutritional consultant for The Great Plains Laboratory, a world leader in providing diagnostics for metabolic, mitochondrial, and environmental factors in chronic illnesses. Gilford also serves on the FCI Board of Directors.
Yvonne Ernzen, J.D. "Obtaining Disability Benefits"
Yvonne Ernzen is a former Senior Attorney for the Social Security Administration (SSA). She has practiced Social Security Disability Law since 1983, on behalf of SSA, and since 1994, on behalf of private citizens. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Fibromyalgia Coalition International. Ms. Ernzen will take questions regarding the Social Security Disability Process for Claimants with Fibromyalgia (with or without other impairments) at all levels including Application, Hearing, Appeals Council Review and Federal Courts. She will also discuss Social Security's Rules which govern your rights to the Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits (DIB) you purchased from SSA and therefore, should receive when/if you become unable to maintain competitive employment, eight hours a day, five days a week, or a similar schedule, on a "regular and continuing basis," due to your medical impairment(s) and the symptoms and limitations resulting therefrom.
